Simulation of Tissue Development and Vascularisation in the Callus Healing Process

چکیده
Introduction: The blood supply as well as mechanical factors are known to guide the fracture healing process [1-4]. Revascularization, tissue differentiation and local mechanical conditions depend on each other in a very complex manner. Mathematical models have been developed to describe the time dependent callus formation during fracture healing. [5-8]. However, previous models did not take into account the revascularization in the fracture callus. The aim of this study was to consider the vascularity as an additional factor for intramembraneous and endochondral ossification in a dynamical simulation of the fracture healing process. For this purpose we simulated the healing of a diaphyseal fracture under different mechanical conditions. The results of the simulation were compared to the outcome of previous experiments [9] of the fracture healing in sheep.

Healing the Bone
Healing of the bone is different with the other part of the body. Fracture healing is actually a bone regeneration with no scar tissues, where as in wound healing, injured tissue is replaced by connective tissue which became a scar, Traditionally fracture healing is divided in to 4 stages: 1) Stage of inflammation; 2) Stage of soft callus; 3) Stage of hard callus and 4) Stage of remodeling. In...
متن کاملCallus formation, regeneration and volatile constituents production in Teucrium chamaedrys tissue culture
Teucrium chamaedrys is regarded as an herbaceous perennial plant from Lamiaceae family that is used as medicinal plants and food from ancient times. Due to the recent developments in tissue culture techniques and extraction of secondary metabolites, this study aimed to investigate the explants of the Teucrium for callus induction and secondary metabolites. The interaction of Auxin hormones incl...
متن کاملFollow-up radiographs to detect callus formation after fractures.
Follow-up radiographs are important to assess proper alignment and adequate healing of a fracture. The formation of a callus is one characteristic used to follow these features, but the timing and size of its appearance is variable. Therefore, when to expect to see a callus on radiographs requires a general understanding of the fracture healing process and the many variables that can affect cal...
متن کاملSimulation of fracture healing incorporating mechanoregulation of tissue differentiation and dispersal/proliferation of cells.
Modelling the course of healing of a long bone subjected to loading has been the subject of several investigations. These have succeeded in predicting the differentiation of tissues in the callus in response to a static mechanical load and the diffusion of biological factors. In this paper an approach is presented which includes both mechanoregulation of tissue differentiation and the diffusion...
متن کاملRegulation of Chondrocyte Differentiation by Neural Factors from Sympathetic and Sensory Nerve Fibres
INTRODUCTION Fracture repair constitutes the sequence of cell biological events following bone injury and recapitulates the steps of endochondral ossification observed during embryonic skeletal development and growth. Because of the different phases of fracture healing (inflammation, cartilage formation and remodeling) the fracture callus provides an excellent tool for analysis of cartilage and...
